Effort is Required.

godlyeriss godlyeriss: about 1 year ago

Hi, I'm godlyeriss, returning from the grave. You might remember me from such stunts as raiding Partydragen's original kingdom, or getting banned and having a good chunk of the server protest for over a month. Needless to say, I, like many players, haven't been active recently. Nobody has.

Many friends of mine, who are former players, have attested to a lack of effort in terms of promotions or updates on CubedCraft. That's disappointing, especially considering that the server hit, if I remember correctly, 100+ concurrent players over a year ago. Nowadays, far from that point, the stench of CubedCraft's rotting former playerbase has long left the room, and most have long forgotten. But it's not necessarily permanent.

My prognosis for the extreme inactivity of CubedCraft is a lack of attention. CubedCraft has tried adding new gamemodes since that point, but that's not an effective solution when most have already left, and the only people who could spread news of these updates and increase activity are few and far between. So, with that overly long prologue completed, I begin my recommendations.

I understand that Partydragen and many of the staff team are busy with other projects and actual life. All of us are. However, if I'm correct, there are at least some staff left on CubedCraft. Given that assumption, Partydragen should either appoint/recruit/send someone to manage the server or do it himself. Given that Partydragen is likely far more focused on his website and other projects, the prior is more likely and more feasible.

The staff need to spend some time thinking of an incentive for getting friends to join. This is not a new strategy, and many servers offer a small to medium in-game reward for inviting friends. This is one option. As for updates, it would be far more beneficial to focus on improving existing games, which the previous CubedCraft community was based around, than to focus on new games. Similarly, too big a focus has been put on PlayerServers. While initially boosting the player count, PlayerServers do little in the terms of long-term player gains, as the popular PlayerServers die off with time and get replaced, which fosters a lack of stability.

Finally, it could be worth it for the Developers to spend time messing around with the existing games to make them more team-centric. This encourages community, slows the rate at which players leave CubedCraft, and builds a playerbase. Also, I know you shot down that other guy's request to bring back forums, but he's correct. Though it won't bring CubedCraft back from the dead, at least not alone, it also fosters a long-term reliable community.

I know it is not the upmost priority for most involved, but, if possible, I think many would appreciate CubedCraft coming back from the dead. It could even, if successful enough, raise a decent amount of money for other projects.

Thank you for your consideration,
godlyeriss, longtime player.
